A COLWICK HALL WEDDING: SOPHIE & ROBBIE

Share a little back story? How did you guys meet? Who made the first move?

We met during COVID when there was a lift in September 2020 on the ban to go out. I was on a weekend away with my best friend, and Robbie was away on a weekend visiting family and sights with his dad.

We met outside a pub in Bath. Me and my friend (who was actually a bridesmaid at my wedding) were off to get matching tattoos. We stopped for a drink beforehand and before we headed home, and they rocked up.

Whilst we were taking some pictures and selfies and started to crack a joke about taking up too many tables etc., we then sat talking for a couple of hours, to which we had found out Robbie was single and had a date the following day and myself/friend were taken at the time. They asked us to come back and show them our matching tattoos and we never did and went straight home. A month later I split with my ex and decided to see if I could get in touch with Robbie. I found him on Facebook with only his first name and location of where he said he was from, to which I then got the nickname from Robbie ‘The Southern Stalker’. Fast forward 5 years we have two kids, happily married and I moved up north for it to all work out with a tattoo to always mark the day we met!

Where and when was the proposal?

The proposal was so unexpected after a rough year losing our son. We found out we were pregnant again just before we were due to leave for our first abroad holiday together. We took a 5am sunrise walk across the black sand beach in Costa Rica, watched the pelicans flying over the sea, listening to howler monkeys and birds all awakening for the day. I turned round to Robbie on one knee asking if I would marry him. Of course I said yes and proceeded to give him the wrong hand in all the happy tears. We then had an amazing day, watched the turtles lay their eggs on a private beach in the night; it was so special and memorable.

What was the favourite part of your wedding day?

This is a tough one; it was so full of love and happiness, every part was so special in its own way. I think our favourite part was walking back up the aisle together with our daughter as Mr and Mrs Maggs, finally a family unit.

Have you got any top tips for couples who are planning their wedding?

Take in every single second – planning through to the big day and beyond – because it comes and goes in the blink of an eye! Also, book an extra night near or around your wedding venue as a mini-moon as the post-wedding blues hit hard and no-one talks about that enough!
