A COMBERMERE ABBEY WEDDING: MOLLY & JAMES

Share a little back story?  How did you guys meet?  Who made the first move?

We were set up by a colleague at Currys PC World. It was only James’ second or third shift when a colleague asked if he’d met Molly yet. He hadn’t, so the colleague pointed Molly out to him and told him that she’d asked for him to go for a drink after work. What we didn’t realise until much later was that our colleague had pulled the same trick on Molly, telling her that James had asked her out for a drink! We’ve been together ever since, and we both owe that colleague for giving us that little nudge (even if it wasn’t entirely honest)!

Where and when was the proposal?

We got engaged during a 10-day road trip through the Italian lakes that James had been planning for two years (thanks to Covid delays!). One of the stops was Lake Como, a place James had visited years ago with his mum and her partner. There’s actually a photo from that trip that’s framed and on our living room shelf, but we had no idea that photo would become such a meaningful part of our story. After a lovely dinner in the mountains, we went down to the lake at sunset, and James proposed on a bench by a lamppost. Completely by chance, it was the exact spot where that photo had been taken years earlier. The lovely serendipity of it all is that when we came home, we already had a framed photo of the exact place where we got engaged sitting on our living room shelf.

 

Saying our vows was incredibly surreal, such a powerful and emotional moment that we’ll never forget. Later, just before the wedding breakfast was served, we had a chance to sit down, look around the room, and really take in that everyone who means so much to us was all together under one roof to celebrate our marriage. And of course the dancing at the end of the night was unforgettable, seeing everyone letting loose and having the best time was the perfect way to round off an amazing day!

One piece of advice we heard over and over was to try and take it all in because the day is over in a flash. Despite how many people told us this, we didn’t realise just how true it was. The whole day really does go by so quickly, so make sure you take a moment to step back, look around, and soak it all in. Those moments where you pause and truly take everything in will stay with you forever.
