A MILL BARNS WEDDING: SKYE & ALEX

Share a little back story? How did you guys meet? Who made the first move?

We met in 2015 via a mutual friend (the best man) who suggested Alex came to pick us up after a night out. We hit it off immediately and bickered like an old married couple the whole time during the drive, and had an immediate spark! Alex was the one who then reached out first and messaged me, and over the next few months of messaging and the occasional drive, we made things official.

Where and when was the proposal?

The proposal happened in the Isle of Wight, the place where we had our first holiday together. It was 2018, and the year prior whilst on holiday there, we witnessed an amazing storm that we had chased to the beach in Shanklin, where we sat on one of the concrete groins in the sea and watched 4 different storms over the water. The following year, Alex took me to the exact same spot, where we walked right out onto the end of the groin, where Alex then proposed. I was in such disbelief I actually ran away from him up the beach!

What was the favourite part of your wedding day?

Our favourite part of the wedding day was taking our first selfie after the wedding ceremony. I had been so calm and composed the day before and morning of the wedding, I was just so excited to see Alex. We don’t spend much time away from each other so being apart the night before had been difficult!

What was it that made you choose Simply Beautiful Photo & Film to capture your day?

We chose Simply Beautiful Photo and Film, as I was eager to use a photographer that had shot at our venue the Mill Barns before. I was also impressed with what was included in the package, and found the engagement photo shoot to be such a valuable experience. Without it, I don’t think I would have felt anywhere near as comfortable in front of the camera on the big day, as someone who didn’t like having their photo taken. After my initial phone call with Sarah- Jane, I felt confident that my vision had been understood, and every correspondence up to and after the wedding day has only made me more confident that we made the right choice.

Have you got any top tips for couples who are planning their wedding?

My top tips for people planning a wedding is if you can, be as involved in every process as you can. I know not everyone is particularly crafty or interested in DIY, but one of the best decisions I made was doing everything myself, as on the day, everything I looked at had been curated and made by myself, and the sense of pride and relief was amazing! I also highly recommend using a photographer that knows the venue, as they will know all the best spots for the best photos, and will make sure the whole venue is utilised and made to look incredible!!
